Timed Text Markup Language 2 (TTML2) (2nd Edition) https://www.w3.org/TR/2021/CR-ttml2-20210309/ Abstract This document specifies the Second Edition of the Timed Text Markup Language (TTML), Version 2, also known as TTML2 (2e), in terms of a vocabulary and semantics thereof. The Timed Text Markup Language is a content type that represents timed text media for the purpose of interchange among authoring systems. Timed text is textual information that is intrinsically or extrinsically associated with timing information. It is intended to be used for the purpose of transcoding or exchanging timed text information among legacy distribution content formats presently in use for subtitling and captioning functions. In addition to being used for interchange among legacy distribution content formats, TTML Content may be used directly as a distribution format, for example, providing a standard content format to reference from a <track> element in an [HTML] document, or a <text> or <textstream> media element in a [SMIL 3.0] document. Status of the Document This section describes the status of this document at the time of its publication. Other documents may supersede this document. A list of current W3C publications and the latest revision of this technical report can be found in the W3C technical reports index at https://www.w3.org/TR/. This is the Second Candidate Recommendation (CR2) of the Second Edition of the Timed Text Markup Language 2 (TTML2), and is expected to advance to Proposed Recommendation no earlier than 6 April 2021. This Second Candidate Recommendation (CR2) makes no technical changes to the previous, First Candidate Recommendation (CR1); that is, only editorial (non-substantive) changes were applied. For this specification to exit CR, the following criterion must be met: for each feature (extension) affected by a substantive change introduced by this specification, at least two independent implementations must support the feature (extension) having been so affected. No (underlying) feature (extension) has been added or removed by this revision, and, as such, no feature (extension) is marked at risk. An implementation report is provided. A summary of technical changes from TTML2, 1st Edition, is available at Timed Text Markup Language 2 (TTML2) Change Summary. Comments about this document are welcome by filing an issue on GitHub or sending email to public-tt@w3.org (subscribe, archives) with a subject line starting with [ttml2]. This document was published by the Timed Text (TT) Working Group as a Candidate Recommendation Snapshot. Publication as a Candidate Recommendation does not imply endorsement by the W3C Membership. A Candidate Recommendation Snapshot has received wide review and is intended to gather implementation experience. This document was produced by a group operating under the W3C Patent Policy. W3C maintains a public list of any patent disclosures made in connection with the deliverables of the group; that page also includes instructions for disclosing a patent. An individual who has actual knowledge of a patent which the individual believes contains Essential Claim(s) must disclose the information in accordance with section 6 of the W3C Patent Policy.
