Proposal to Republish JSON-LD 1.0 as a Superseded Recommendation (Wide Review until 2020-10-21)

Hello,

W3C Advisory Committee Representatives received a proposal to republish
the following W3C Recommendation as a Superseded Recommendation:

- JSON-LD 1.0
    W3C Recommendation 16 January 2014
    http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/REC-json-ld-20140116/

- JSON-LD 1.0 Processing Algorithms and API
    W3C Recommendation 16 January 2014
    http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/REC-json-ld-api-20140116/

The reason for this proposal is that the JSON-LD 1.1 specifications
provide 1.0 compatibility. Additionally, processors can use the
json-ld-1.0 processing mode to explicitly ignore 1.1 features seen
in data documents and contexts:

“The API provides an option for setting the processing mode
to json-ld-1.0, which will prevent JSON-LD 1.1 features from
being activated, or error if @version entry in a context is explicitly
set to 1.1. This specification extends JSON-LD 1.0 via the json-ld-1.1
processing mode.”

The following text is proposed to be added to the Status of This
Documents of JSON-LD 1.0:

This specification is a Superseded Recommendation. A newer
specification exists that is recommended for new adoption in place of
this specification, namely JSON-LD 1.1. Implementers and users should
refer to that versions of the specification.

(The same text will be used for the JSON-LD 1.0 Processing Algorithms
and API.)

The W3C wishes to communicate clearly the status of JSON-LD 1.0 to the
Web community. As part of ensuring that the community is aware of this
proposal, W3C invites public comments on the
public-review-announce@w3.org mailing list [1] through 03:59 UTC/GMT
on 2020-10-22 (23:59, Boston time on 2020-10-21).

If you work for a W3C Member
<https://www.w3.org/Consortium/Member/List>, please coordinate your
comments with your Advisory Committee Representative. For example, you
may wish to make public comments and have your Advisory Committee
Representative refer to it from his or her formal review comments.

This Call for Review follows section 6.2.12.4 "Declaring a W3C
Recommendation
Rescinded, Obsolete or Superseded" of the W3C Process Document:
