The CSS WG has published a Candidate Recommendation and invites implementations of the CSS Grid Layout Module Level 2: https://www.w3.org/TR/css-grid-2/ This module contains the “subgrid” feature that was cut from Level 1 due to lack of implementations. There have been no changes to this module since its previous Working Draft, other than incorporation of the full text of the CSS Grid Level 1 specification. The editors apologize for the delay since the resolution to advance to CR which was annotated into the December 2019 WD [1]. We are grateful to Mozilla for implementing and giving feedback, and encourage other CSS implementations to update so that authors and users can benefit from subgrid’s ability to combine content-sized grid layouts with nested structural markup.
