Abstract


This specification defines a means to programmatically determine the visibility state of a document. This can aid in the development of resource efficient web applications.

Page Visibility Level 2 replaces the first version of [PAGE-VISIBILITY] and includes: Processing and IDL clarifications: VisibilityState.unloaded has been removed. Document.hidden is historical. Use Document.visibilityState instead. Document.onvisibilitychange has been added. Various enhancements and clarifications in the processing model and algorithms. Visibility state is set to hidden when the user agent is unloading a document;

The Working Group expects to demonstrate 2 implementations of the features listed in this specification by the end of the Candidate Recommendation phase. prerender is marked a feature at risk.

This document was published by the Web Performance Working Group as a Candidate Recommendation. This document is intended to become a W3C Recommendation.
