Also, from a philosophical perspective: 'Intellectual Property' is a misnomer too. Property is a societal response to scarcity, and one of the challenges facing media businesses is that the scarcity their business models rely upon (scarcity of high-fidelity copies) no longer exists, courtesy new technologies. The scarcity that does exist is scarcity of talent and labour - both on the part of the creative artists and the technicians involved in production and distribution. In my opinion, use of the term 'IP' muddles the conversation, because it obfuscates the issue at the heart of the matter: in a just society, producers get paid for their work.
