WWW2006 Session Proposal: RDF/A in Action: Enabling Semantic Web Clients

Dear WWW2006 Developer Track Chairs,

I would like to propose a session for the WWW2006 DevTrack, which would show
RDF/A in action. Participants will include myself, Ben Adida and Steven
Pemberton.

Presentation Title: RDF/A in Action: Enabling Semantic Web Clients

Preferred Length: 30 minutes

Possible Lengths: Lightning, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes

Sessions:
	- Next Wave Web Technologies (preferred)
	- Ontologies and Semantic Web

Short Description:

RDF/A is a new mechanism for allowing XHTML documents to carry metadata with
the full power of RDF, yet without the difficulties involved in traditional
RDF syntax. In many cases RDF/A lets the author re-use the data they already
have in their document, but by making use of a few simple extensions to
XHTML this data becomes part of the Semantic Web.

Embedding RDF in an XHTML document in this way opens up a number of exciting
possibilities for the future of the Semantic Web; first it allows authors to
publish metadata as easily as they can publish any XHTML page (for example
as a blog), and second it allows client software to enrich the user
experience by making use of this metadata.

This session aims to demonstrate this, using various technologies,
including:

  * GreaseMonkey extensions to FireFox;
  * side-bars in Internet Explorer;
  * a new Semantic Web browser called Sidewinder.

More information about RDF/A is available from the RDF/A Primer at:

Mark
