Dear all, As some of you will have noticed through W3C news, through blogs and community buzz, we have just launched a campaign of donation and sponsorship designed to give the Web communicabilityty a chance to show their support for the validators, and to give the validators a chance to grow into better, more usable, more mature tools. http://www.w3.org/QA/Tools/Donate As members of the validators community, you will know better than anyone else that these tools need a lot of energy and care to benefit to the millions that check their web content daily: indeed, many of you spend a lot of time helping others, providing code, bug reports, test cases, contributing translations or ideas. This is a beautiful community work and you deserve immense praise for it. Many of you also know that some improvements don't happen as fast as they could. New ideas fall into "someday piles". Bugs sometimes take a while to get fixed. We believe we can do better. We believe that the validators can be made even more reliable, more efficient, more flexible. We believe that they can be made more usable, even by those who are still learning the web, even by those who don't speak English. The donation program, which will be used exclusively to fund the validators and related open source projects, will allow us to provide each project with a developer lead to code and support open source contributors more diligently, to work with designers and user experience experts, to push for new features, etc. Please see this post for more info about the donation campaign: http://www.w3.org/QA/2008/12/validator_donation_program.html and lend a hand in making the campaign a success, and building the future of the validators: * donate! http://www.w3.org/QA/Tools/Donate * Tell the world, write about the campaign on your blog or in the web communities you are part of. Tell them to donate, remind them that they can get involved in many ways http://www.w3.org/QA/Tools/Donate#donate_community http://www.w3.org/Status#contribute * tell your colleagues and management about the opportunities of the sponsorship program http://www.w3.org/QA/Tools/Donate#donate_sponsors Thanks for your support, olivier -- olivier Thereaux - W3C - http://www.w3.org/People/olivier W3C Open Source Software : http://www.w3.org/Status
