It's done -- both the linkchecker and the markup validator have now entered Debian Etch, which will become the next stable version. Barring any unexpected long delay in releasing Etch, it will ship with linkchecker 4.3 and markup validator 7.3. I attach below a short patch to update the documentation of the validator to indicate this fact.
