Re: Let's introduce ourselves

Hi everyone,

I’m Mateus Teixeira, Director of Digital Publishing at W. W. Norton & Company, co-chair of the Publishing CG (with Zheng and Wolfgang), and AC Rep for W. W. Norton. In my digital publishing past I worked on desktop publishing, composition, and trade ebook production, but lately my focus has been on incubation, educational tech, and digital product strategy. My teams at Norton are responsible for the production of higher-ed and high school ebooks, media, and development of some of Norton’s edtech products, including our own Norton Ebook Reader.

I’m especially interested in the standardization of ebook functionality for Web-native use cases, development of books as software, and imagining the future of books in browsers. I am also interested in the standardization of educational technologies as they’re applied in digital publications, and keep a close eye on the potential intersections between IMS/1EdTech and Publishing@W3C.

As co-chair of the Publishing CG, I have been specializing on the discovery and analysis of new use cases for digital publications, with the goal to inspire broad participation and enthusiasm within this community of experts. I’m a strong believer in the principle that you do not need a strong technical background to contribute good ideas; our best potential in this group lies in the pairing of people with deep knowledge about publishing and those with the technical expertise to build prototypes and run experiments.

Hi folks

Some of you might have noticed that I started to ask new joined members to introduce themselves shortly.

Actually I think maybe it's also a good time to introduce ourselves to new members and each other as well since the CG started to be active during covid and I think a lot of us did not know each other and might have missed some of the PCG meetings (which is totally fine).

Ok, I will run a quick introduction of myself.

My name is Zheng Xu. I am located in Ottawa (Canada) and founder of Gardenia Corp (a digital reading system firm).
I joined PCG because I hope I could help with prototyping new reading experiences, test new concepts and most importantly - make them into a real product or spec to benefit digital book readers.
