TDM RESERVATION PROTOCOL COMMUNITY GROUP

Dear all,

Please be aware of the creation of the TDM Reservation Protocol CG.

The goal of this Group is to facilitate Text and Data Mining (TDM) in Europe and elsewhere, by specifying a simple and practical machine-readable solution, capable of expressing the reservation of TDM rights - following the rules set by the new European DSM Directive / Art.4 - and the availability of machine-readable licenses for TDM actors.

The entry page for the CG is https://www.w3.org/community/tdmrep/ <https://www.w3.org/community/tdmrep/> : you can join the Group from there.
A Github space has been setup at https://github.com/w3c/tdm-reservation-protocol <https://github.com/w3c/tdm-reservation-protocol> and will be used for working documents and issues.

You'll find here a document <https://www.w3.org/community/tdmrep/2021/01/21/context-of-the-initiative/> explaining why the Federation of European Publishers and national publishers bodies (especially AIE Italy and SNE France) have created this CG, which should become a forum where publishers and TDM actors meet and build a technical solution which will ease TDM worldwide.

EDRLab is acting here as a facilitator between publishers (who are not experts in technologies) and developers of TDM tools (who are not experts in publishing and copyright matters). Draft requirements from the publishing industry will be validated, international use cases will be refined and we hope that a simple but effective technical solution can be designed before the summer.

Best regards
Laurent Le Meur
