Dear Publishing Business Group folks, On the call today I took an action item to provide the planned vote on the NISO ballot for ISO work on the EPUB Accessibility Conformance and Discovery Specification. Below is what I plan to submit: *** The DAISY Consortium votes Yes, with comments Comments: Reading from the submission provided: Comment 1: In the Co-ordination of work section: the phrase appears, "But there are no plans to create W3C recommendations for EPUB Accessibility." I suggest this be revised or removed. W3C has no formal current Chartered Working Group with a mandate to move the EPUB Accessibility Conformance and Discovery Specification forward, but the industry needs an International Standard for acccessible EPUB publications as soon as possible. There is a great deal of interest and work in this domain. It is expected that members working in W3C will participate in the ISO work. It is certainly possible that a successor of EPUB Accessibility Conformance and Discovery Specification version 1.0 becomes a W3C recommendation in the future, and Best practices will evolve as well as the techniques for accessibility. Comment2: In the proposal there is a reference to the specification on the IDPF site, but I suggest that the formal reference should be to the specification on the W3C. See: https://www.w3.org/Submission/epub-a11y/ George Kerscher will participate on behalf of DAISY through our membership in NISO
