Leaving W3C Team

Publishing@W3C folks,

Please be informed that I am winding up my role as Publishing Champion on
the W3C Team effective July 31. For technical matters Ivan Herman
(ivan@w3.org <mailto:ivan@w3.org> ) should be your primary team contact, and
for member relations support please make Karen Myers (karen@w3.org
<mailto:karen@w3.org> ) your primary team contact.

It's truly been a privilege to have had the opportunity to help get
Publishing@W3C rolling over the past 18 months since the combination of IDPF
into W3C. I'm more convinced than ever that this was the right decision, as
evidenced by the high level of engagement and activity in the new Publishing
Business Group, Publishing Working Group and its Steering Committee, and the
EPUB 3 Community Group. A dedicated "champion" role was always understood
to likely be transitional in nature as W3C is by design participant-driven .
and that is powerfully evidenced in these groups which all have strong
co-chairs / task-force leads in place. So I'm confident that Publishing@W3C
will continue to grow and thrive and I thank the co-chairs, the former IDPF
Board of Directors, Ivan, Karen, and all who are engaged in these activities
for your collective support.

The strategic thesis on which we predicated the combination of IDPF with W3C
was that the future of publishing is inextricably connected with the Open
Web Platform and that the publishing ecosystem must therefore seek to
directly influence the evolution of Web technology. The efforts and progress
over the past year and a half has underscored this. But to make it so will
require the continued engagement from the publishing community. I
particularly urge former IDPF members to strongly consider planning to
become regular W3C members when the TPI program winds down next February.

For me, after 8+ years focusing on advancing open standards at IDPF and W3C
I'm aiming to get back to my entrepreneurial/intrapreneurial and product
development roots. Please stay in touch and meanwhile you will continue to
see me lurking in the EPUB 3 CG, at digital publishing email and twitter
water coolers, and who knows maybe even as an AC rep someday.
