Hello, my name is Teenya Franklin and I joined the PWG last week. This is just a brief email to say Hello and introduce myself. I currently serve as the Accessible Materials Specialist for the Pearson Accessibility Group for School. My position entails working with company wide teams on document accessibility evaluation and remediation, developing and delivering accessible materials training, and accessible resource management. Most recently Pearson Assessment has begun researching the pros/cons of moving the development of documentation such as teacher /administrator manuals and specifications from PDF to EPUB. As my knowledge of accessible documentation is limited to that of PDF and MS Office applications, I went seeking resources. Luckily my supervisor Brent Bakken was familiar with the PWG and assisted me in contact the group. I previously served as Director of Community Programs for Knowbility, overseeing all AIR (Accessible Internet Rally) programs, the annual John Slatin AccessU and AccessU West Accessibility Training conferences and other Knowbility training and educational efforts. I am currently a member of 501 Tech Club, and in the past have participated as a mentor in the summer mentoring program through the Texas School for the Blind. At one time I served on the Steering Committee for the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities and was also a member of Austin Connects, a partnership for professional development in the community technology sector. So that is me and how I got here, I look forward to being a part of the group and working with you.
