Just FYI: I am not sure that will/may become useful for development/spec work down the line, but it might: we may be able to define 'standard' extension elements for a community that is mostly used to declarative behaviour. With that: I just learnt that the custom element portion of the WhatWG HTML Spec: https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/custom-elements.html#custom-elements will be part of HTML 5.3, whose work will begin either at the end of this year, or the beginning of next. Ie, these features may become part of the HTML standard by the time we plan to finish our work.
