Interesting. The OGC and ISO communities have done considerable standards work in this specific area.
Also, on Monday I attended an Aviation industry standards coordination workshop. Provenance is a huge issue in the aviation industry, especially as they are moving to real time digital updates to the cockpit.

This may have a relevance here, as one of the recommendations in the XG final report reads:
The third recommendation made by the group is to encourage its participants and followers to join the Provenance working group to work on sensor-specific issues.
