2012 Incident Highlights

.             1478 data loss incidents and breaches, up 35% from 2011
(reported) 

.             242.6 million records exposed

.             97% of breaches and data loss incidents are avoidable

.             26% of incidents due to internal sources (~71% external, ~4%
unknown)

.             $194 cost per record for remediation 

.             $5.5 million average cost to business for of each breach

.             $8.1 billion impact to businesses (worldwide)
