Hello everyone, After Third Edition became a W3C Recommendation, I spent some time spreading the word. Reception seems quite positive. XDA <https://www.xda-developers.com/png-file-format-update-third-edition/> says "...and honestly, I shouldn't be this happy over an update to an image file format." The story was the top of Hacker News <https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44365754> for almost an entire day. There was a small mention in The Verge <https://www.theverge.com/news/692595/we-finally-have-an-update-for-png>. And there was coverage in Tom's Hardware <https://www.tomshardware.com/software/png-has-been-updated-for-the-first-time-in-22-years-new-spec-supports-hdr-and-animation> , The Register <https://www.theregister.com/2025/06/26/new_version_of_png/>, TechSpot <https://www.techspot.com/news/108483-png-image-format-receives-hdr-animation-support-first.html>, and many other tech news outlets. Theo (a programming content creator) also covered it. His reaction (20m 39s into the video) was fantastic <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbLKROuv27g&t=20m39s>: "That is *really* cool. I'm super excited about this. This is an awesome change. I obviously—as a media person that does a lot of code stuff and spent a lot of their life working on media and encoding pipelines—I'm biased and think this is the coolest **** ever. This is the first 'new standard' I've seen that's such an obvious, immediate apparent win that *everything* should start adopting it and using it (that is already on PNG at the very least). ...But this is awesome. I'm really pumped about the work. Shout out to the PNG Working Group participants." So congratulations, again!
