Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: [PNG] Meeting topics - Jan 8th, 2024

Hi All,

Is there anything I can do to help get us to release (any blocking issues that I can help with)?

I’ll do my best to help.

I got a notification from my ISP that they will be doing scheduled maintenance in my area today. I wasn't given a time window.
There is a chance I struggle to connect to meeting today.

I'll make sure the minutes doc link is in the W3C calendar so someone else can hopefully run the meeting & take minutes in case I am unable to.

Correct, Chrome and Edge both use the Blink browser engine.

Yeah. I'm not sure Edge counts. It is based on Chromium now.

We should have support for 3 since I’m seeing Edge support as well.

I ran the Web Platform Tests locally on my Mac M1 running macOS 14.2.1 and Safari 17.2.1. The cICP test passed as-is.

However, on the WPT dashboard (macOS 13.6, Safari 185 preview) the tests fails.

Given that I was told Safari supports cICP and my local test run verifies this, I'm happy to assume the change came in a macOS update after the WPT bot's version.

I think this means we can safely check the 2 browser support box for cICP.

Chris’s gain map proposal may be a bit premature…
I don't think so, they did ask for our input after all.

As he notes in the GH thread, there is an experts meeting in Feb with TC42 and ICC experts (and others) around HDR (and gain maps). Some of the proposals that are expected to be floated at that meeting will remove the need for format-centric gain map approaches.

Good to know, but they haven't told us that so I was unaware of the specifics.

I have asked for travel authorization for that meeting but don't yet know if W3C will give me the budget to attend.

Unless we have a need to more it forward more quickly – I’d hold off till after that.
Certainly it should not be added to any spec before that meeting, but I wouldn't want to pause all discussion until then.
