RE: Microsoft Connect - Internet Explorer Feedback (IE): Feedback item 932295 Comment or Request for Information, The State for ARIA Radio controls is not properly mapped in the Accessibility Tree in IE

I’m confused, is this something different from platform radios in Windows7?

If I open Internet Explorer, activate the Tools menu, then open Internet Options, there is a set of radio controls on the General tab panel. These are all Windows software controls.

The first radio there is named “Start With Home Page”

In looking at the UIA accessibility tree for this control it reports the following information:

Name: “Start with home page”
State: “FOCUSED CHECKED FOCUSABLE”

This matches that seen on Firefox for standard input+type=”radio” as well as role=”radio” elements.

I don’t understand why IE is reporting a state of “FOCUSED SELECTED FOCUSABLE”, when this doesn’t appear anywhere else, not even within native Windows radios.

Radio buttons in windows use selected, not checked. We made them consistently use selected in Edge. We're considering adding the toggle pattern (uia version of checked) as well as selected in a future version. We can't remove the selection pattern because it would make edge radio buttons inconsistent with other windows radio buttons.

Does anybody know if this means that the 'selected' state is used instead of 'checked'?

If 'selected', it will cause problems.
