Document: Media Accessibility User Requirements First Public Working Draft 3 January 2012 Users requiring described video will require it whether they are accessing the resource ‘live’ or from a locally stored recording. Proposal: In 3.1 Described video, add the following requirements: [DV-x] When recording a resource locally, allow the user to ensure that the description is recorded along with the resource. This feature can be user configurable to allow maximum flexibility in trading off the anticipated future need for the description against the amount of extra data storage required. A flexible solution giving maximum control to the user would be to provide a global setting with the following options: • Always record the description (the best default option, since a resource recorded by one user may later be accessed by another different user who may have different and unanticipated requirements); • Record the description only if it is active at the time of recording; • Ask at recording time whether to record the description; • Never record the description.
