Hi Anne - We certainly understand that the deadline we set can be problematic in some instances, as appears to be the case for you. We have three reasons we set a deadline for comment acknowledgements: 1) To ensure we receive them in time to take material action on any concerns before our next scheduled publication; 2) To have a date after which we can reasonably record the commenter acknowledgement as "not received"; 3) To help the commenter ensure this is on their todo list. While we need to meet the above goals, we are willing to offer a reasonable extension to the deadline on a case-by-case basis. Is two weeks enough for you? That would make 15 February 2010 the date by which we hope to receive your acknowledgement. We will go ahead and plan on that for your case. If two weeks extra is not sufficient, please contact us again so we can come to an arrangement that meets our needs identified above as well as your own time constraints.
