Dear Protocols & Formats working group, I have been following closely the progress of the WAI-ARIA specification. Like many I would like the W3C to update/publish DTDs that allow us to check HTML documents that contain ARIA roles, attributes and properties. I have produced an example/custom DTD for XHTML 1.1 + ARIA (with just the default namespace) (Mar-July 2008), http://iet-access.open.ac.uk/ http://iet-access.open.ac.uk/dtd/xhtml-role-state.dtd ( Note, text/xml for the DTD gives an XML parser error in Firefox, but it validates, http://validome.org/grammar/validate/?grammarTyp=DTD&url=http://iet-access.open.ac.uk/dtd/xhtml-role-state.dtd ) (This is based on the work of Martin Kliehm - any errors in the above are mine!) Others are interested, and Steve Faulkner has done some comparable work, http://www.456bereastreet.com/archive/200902/validating_wai-aria_in_html_and_xhtml/ http://www.paciellogroup.com/blog/?p=107 I don't advocate the use of custom DTDs, http://www.w3.org/Style/customdtd - I would like to withdraw the DTDs at 'iet-access', when there are official alternatives. I hope that our work can feed into your activity. (And apologies for this being a little late!)
