Re: Symbols Update: i18n, AAC, Bliss, WikiHow and RTL. Long

Hi Lional

I dont think this is particularly new.

Bliss is no longer used in the greater AAC community. Currently the proprietary and commercial symbols Tobii Dynavox and SymbolStix dominate. There are open source symbols available here, https://globalsymbols.com. We may also try ARASAAC. This means we need to change how we discuss symbols, and look closer at symbol inter-compatibility.

ARASAAC is mapped to bliss in multiple sets, so interms of mapping it not a big problem. Proprietary and commercial symbols are proprietary. That is the problem we are solving for. The demo shows it loading also ARASAAC (becuse they map). Mapping at the user end, also allows for the localisation to the individual user. That is almost exactly what we are doing and why.

The inline rendering in the "WikiHow" proof of concept is not best practice. The symbols should be rendered above the text, each symbol above the word that it portrays.

in the user settings you can say were it is rendered. It has the option for above the text becuse of exactly this reason.

All the best
