Re: Fwd: Fwd: reference BLISS symbolics

Thanks Lisa!

I had the intention, but forgot, to show you an example of symbol
representation (Blissymbols in this case) of web content made by Peter
Ljunglöf <http://www.cse.chalmers.se/~peb/> in connection to a project some
years ago - called Simplypedia - dynamically adding Blissymbol
representation to Wikipedia content
<http://www.grammaticalframework.org/~peter/simplypedia/simplypedia.cgi>.
This was a draft implementation intended to also serve as a foundation for
providing a set of semi-automatic tools for web content editors to ensure a
more correct and balanced symbol representation. The idea was also to
improve the automatic representation with gradually better semantic
analysis of the text, as well as giving the user indication of ambiguity
and showing alternative possible representations. We never got that far
though (as so often happens). But even so, this is a rather interesting and
impressing prototype of real time symbol representation of arbitrary
Swedish or English text content (in Wikipedia).
Test some Wikipedia link words in the text to make sure that this is live
real time arbitrary text-to-symbol representation.
The coverage is of course not close to 100%, not too bad, but room for a
lot of improvement. Should be better with an updated Bliss lexicon.
Also note some of the funny mismatched representations of some
words/concepts.

Sandra, Russell: I think this link should be added to the Interesting
Places link page on the BCI website under the heading of Sweden and in the
section of Peter Ljunglöf. I thought I had done that, but it doesn't seem
so. Could you please add it?

If any of you (who haven't already) have some spare time and would like to
see the CCF approach
<http://www.dart-gbg.org/public/anpassningar/raknare.php?fil=Inclusive_AAC_Lundalv_Derbring.pdf>
at work, feel free to download and install the CCF-SymbolServer and
CCF-SymbolWriter extension to LibreOffice Writer (only packaged for Windows
I'm afraid).

You'll find the CCF SymbolWriter installer at www.meloton.com/filer/CCF-
SymbolWriter-1.3.4.msi together with an installation instruction at
www.meloton.com/filer/CCF-SymbolWriter_install_instructions.pdf

If you try this, please let me know if you run into any problems!

Cheers,
Mats
