DECISION: Regarding Call for Consensus to Deprecate Basic Card

Dear Web Payments Working Group,

In response to the 16 August Call for Consensus [1] to deprecate the Basic Card Note, 6 Working Group participants supported the proposal. There were no Formal Objections.

The Chairs hereby record a decision that the proposal carries. The next steps are:

* Republish the Basic Card Note to indicate that work has stopped on the document. [2]
* Update Payment Request API to remove references (in examples) to Basic Card. [3]
* Update Payment Method Identifiers to remove “basic-card" from the list of standardized payment method identifiers. [4]
* Mark the "Card Network Identifiers Approved for use with Payment Request API” as no longer supported [5].

At the 19 August Working Group call [6] several people expressed interest in some form of standardized data format for tokenized payments (rather than Basic Card). I am organizing discussions on that topic; please contact me if you'd like to participate. If all goes well we will then come back to the WG for broader
discussion.

For the co-Chairs,
Ian Jacobs
