@martinthomson one further initial point. Robin, @ekr, and your position is that data controllers and processors can't be trusted.  If you believe that, and feel you must do something about it, then create technologies to identify wrong doing and enable existing justice mechanisms to bring those bad actors to justice. Make the "promises" transparent and verifiable.
