I'd like to canvass opinion on a few issues related to anonymous individuals in OWL 2. 1: Can/Must anonymous individuals be distinguished from RDF blank nodes? 1. An RDF blank node identifier is defined to be scoped locally to a *file or other RDF store* [1, §3.4] <http://www.w3.org/TR/rdf11-concepts/#section-blank-nodes>. 2. An OWL 2 Anonymous Individual nodeID is defined to be scoped to an *ontology* [2, § 5.6.2] <http://www.w3.org/TR/owl2-syntax/#Anonymous_Individuals>. 3. The OWL 2 RDF mapping specification uses blank nodes to represent anonymous individuals. These are not freshly generated for each application of a translation rule. [3, §2.1] <http://www.w3.org/TR/owl2-mapping-to-rdf/#Translation_of_Axioms_without_Annotations> 4. The mapping specification states that Import statements that are resolved to RDF graphs which do not contain an ontology header are treated as being included into the "importing" graph, via graph merging. [2, §3.1.1] <http://www.w3.org/TR/owl2-mapping-to-rdf/#Resolving_Included_RDF_Graphs> . 5. (1-3) seem to suggest that structurally equivalent nodeIDs in the documents in (4) in should co-refer. 6. If (5) holds, anonymous individuals in general cannot be represented as blank nodes. 7. If anonymous individuals are represented as blank nodes, does multiply "importing" an ontology with no header and which contains anonymous individuals result in a fresh set of individuals for each import. 2: Does importing a named ontology via multiple IRIs generate fresh anonymous individuals for each import? 3: Does importing an unnamed ontology via multiple IRIs generate fresh anonymous individuals for each import? 4: Can anonymous individuals in named ontologies be converted assigned IRIs as described in [1, §3.5] <http://www.w3.org/TR/rdf11-concepts/#section-skolemization>? 5: Do Anonymous Individuals with the same nodeId, in ontologies with the same ontologyIRI but different versionIRIs co-refer diachronically? 6: Can blank nodes in unnamed ontologies be converted to IRIs as described in [1, §3.5] <http://www.w3.org/TR/rdf11-concepts/#section-skolemization>?
