In our opinion, it is very timely to go forward with establishing this
working group in order to advance OWL by taking expressed user needs and
new theoretical results into account. The OWL1.1 member submission and
the inputs from the OWLED workshop series are a very good basis to build
upon, as expressed in the charter.
We think, however, that the work on tractable fragments should be
included in the charter, and that this work should be done in parallel
from the very start, in the same working group. We believe that there is
already broad consensus among experts which fragments should be
considered, and the corresponding document of the OWL1.1 member
submission is an excellent account of it. The fragments are already
supported by existing OWL reasoners, and specialised implementations
exist or are under way.
