Hello, I would like to improve my toolbox for supporting non-commercial projects collaborating on social changes. As one of the DIY features I would like to encourage such initiatives to keep OStatus microblogs, since we talk about intentionally public content I see no concerns about privacy in this case. To keep it in a spirit of freedom and autonomy, I would encourage those sites to always use webfinger addresses on domain they control. Still I would like to help with bootstrapping network of 'honest hosts' where those initiatives could delegate hosting of services like OStatus microblogging. Can anyone share with me some suggestions on setting something like that up? To share an example: an initiative wants to have a OStatus microblog, they control domain: sharefoodforest.org among many peers participating in 'honest hosts' network, they have friend relations with people running those two ostatus enabled services: ostatus.hackres4peace.net ostatus.rbose.org both provide continuous backup to an online storage bucket owned by sharefoodforest.org social activists choose to use for their microblog webfinger: updates@sharefoodforest.org (i've suggested on webfinger mailinglist that we could make @sharefoodforest.org valid option but have received rather negative response, btw xmpp allows @domain.tld as valid jid!) challange: delegating from updates@sharefoodforest.org webfinger all OStatus related endpoints to service hosted at ostatus.hackers4peace.net even just by modifying static xrd/jrd file later let's say collective from hackers4peace.net, after we all finally establish world peace conditions, decide to shut down all services. enthusiasts running sharefoodforest.org can smoothly update their webfinger to point to service hosted by different friends at ostatus.rbose.org and simply replicate all history there from their backups... I appreciate your suggestions and look forward to offer my humble contributions to bringing more freedom and autonomy to our online collaboration!
