RE: Athletics Data Conference AthTech - SAVE THE DATE September 2021

I am writing to invite you to participate in Athtech 2021. This will be the 4th occurrence of the conference for all things athletics, data and technology. Some of you will have participated in previous versions and we will try and keep the same popular combination of keynote speakers, interactive sessions and opportunities for B2B interaction. It has proven to be a successful format where National Federations and IT specialists can meet and exchange ideas. This year’s conference will take place in the beautiful resort of Zadar, Croatia on the 22nd-25th September.

We will be based in the university, near the town centre, and have high quality space for our meetings and for break out rooms. We are delighted that we have Christian Milz (CEO, European Athletics) and An Dang Duy (CIO, World Athletics) as two of our keynote speakers which should give us a real insight into how the dominant governing bodies see the future of our sport. The other proposed sessions cover topics including streaming, a common calendar and fan engagement. The overriding philosophy of the conference is to identify common problems and come to standardized solutions that allow the sport to be more efficient.

We are fortunate to have the facilities of a university and a sports centre, so it will be easy to organise extra workshops on specific topics the day before or after the main two conference days.

As a first for Athtech, there will be a high level EAP athletics meeting on the Wednesday evening and a Masters Athletics Gala the next night. As a spectator or even competitor, there will be plenty of real athletics to enjoy, as well as a chance for the technologists to show their innovations in context.

In the current environment it is impossible to plan anything without reference to Covid, but our current understanding is that those who are vaccinated or with a recent PCR will be allowed to travel to Croatia. The conference will only be open to those who have pre-registered, so we will be able to keep controls on numbers. We aim to keep costs down to a minimum and will be charging 125€ per delegate (including VAT) to cover administration and room hire. European Athletics is contributing to keep the costs down.  There are a large variety of accommodation options available and we ask attendees to book their own to keep administration costs down. We have reserved rooms at Hotel Kolovare - 4* hotel walking distance from all events and old town: 120€ (60 per person) double occupancy with breakfast; single occupancy 85€ (quote AthTech when booking directly) but feel free to explore the many other options available as we are out of peak holiday season.
