Special Invitation: W3C Business Group Discussion for Oil & Gas Industry

Special Invitation: W3C Business Group Discussion for Oil & Gas Industry
Applications of Semantic Web Technologies to Solve Business Problems
Semantic Web experts from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), together with representatives of W3C member Chevron, invite you to join us at SemTech 2011 for a discussion about a new forum for applying Semantic Web technologies to address business challenges in the Oil & Gas Industry. This informal gathering will take place on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 5:30pm in room @@@, San Francisco Hilton.
While W3C is best known as a standards body, including creation of the core Semantic Web standards, the consortium is introducing W3C Business Groups as an affordable new way for companies to benefit from W3C's technical staff expertise, collaborative infrastructure, IPR policies and focused community of Web experts to address specific business challenges. Participants in W3C Business Groups determine which pre- or non-competitive industry issues they wish to solve in the context of applying W3C technologies.
Some examples of potential topics that may be of interest for an Oil & Gas Industry W3C Business Group include: Project/application friendly ontologies for cataloging equipment used in Major Capital Projects; Open Ontologies for Earth Science (geology, geophysics etc); and Information Management for Joint Ventures. These are intended simply as examples; we invite you to suggest other possible business areas of focus.
If you would like to attend this W3C Business Group discussion for the Oil & Gas Industry, please RSVP to Karen Myers, W3C at Karen@w3.org<mailto:Karen@w3.org>, or Frank Chum, Chevron, FChum at chevron dot com. We look forward to seeing you soon.
