Nordic Accessibility Community Group: March Session

[UPDATE: My organization does not support setting up Zoom calls with durations longer than 45 minutes … Therefor, I have to revert to using Microsoft Teams. /Tobias]

Dear members of the Nordic Accessibility Community Group,

I hope this message finds you well. It's time for our next Nordic Accessibility Community Group session, and this time, we're diving into the important topics that we didn't get a chance to cover in our last roundtable session in February. Your active participation and insights will be valuable as we explore these topics together.

If you didn't get a chance to join last time, here's a list of the topics raised that we will go over:

  1. Progress of accessibility: Anna-Liisa expresses skepticism regarding the advancement of accessibility, contradicting claims that it is progressing well.
  2. Digital tools and accessibility support: There is a notable lack of support for accessibility in many digital tools, such as PDF creators and tools for creating accessible content with mathematical formulae, as highlighted by Anna-Liisa.
  3. Lack of universal best practices: Sander Nijsingh points out the difficulty in establishing a universally applicable set of best practices for web accessibility due to the varied methods of implementation.
  4. Clarity on EU legislation and standards: Miia Kirsi raises concerns about the unclear legislative situation in the EU regarding standards and updates for accessibility, leading to confusion.
  5. Demand for accessibility knowledge in organizations: Tobias Jensen notes a disappointing growth in the number of organizations seeking individuals knowledgeable in accessibility, contrary to his expectations five years ago.
  6. Legitimacy of accessibility overlays: Erik Gustafsson criticizes the legitimacy given to accessibility overlay companies by well-known individuals and companies within the accessibility community through acquisitions or partnerships.
  7. AI's impact on accessibility: An unknown contributor remarks on the overshadowing effect of AI hype on the field of accessibility, suggesting both challenges and opportunities.

We will be working in this document, where you may also add your thoughts in advance, should you be unable to attend the session: 2024-03-25 - Nordic Accessibility Community Group - Discussions.docx<https://siteimprove323-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/g/personal/tcj_siteimprove_com/EZwxjIatPtNFp1hOXipICFcByDqo9I7jv9j66AnmgfWb6A?e=BOq0bP>

Your input and insights are vital to the success of our community, and we look forward to seeing you at the meeting. I hope we can work together to make the future more accessible!

If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Best regards,

Tobias Christian Jensen
