Hello, I would like to suggest an alternative approach for our roadmap doc. Since the idea of the forum is to specifically deal with mobile "web" for social development, the primary task, in my opinion, is to identify the major building blocks/enablers in the web, which can be brought to the BoP segment irrespective of the handset capabilities for creating applications for social development. Without getting into a debate of what mobile web means to the BoP, a simple definition of the objective, in my opinion, is to make it possible for all those in the BoP segment "to see and to be seen" on the "web" primarily for improving their livelihood. In short, there is so much information on the web that you can use for your own benefits, and unless you show-up on the web, the "connected-class" will not reach you or know what you have to offer. In this context, I can think of some of the key building blocks/enablers that the web offers today which if accessed by our target customer segment can considerably help them improve their lives. 1. Search (will enable tapping the vast information pool on the web) 2. Publishing info. (regarding own products, advertising etc) 3. Unified communication (use the web to reach and be reached using tools such as phone2email, sms2email etc) 4. Location (mechanism to give out own coordinates and see others' coordinates relevant for business.) 5. Social networking (a potential use case will be to manage a group of customers for your products for regular updates on price, availability etc) There may be many more. In summary, focusing on identifying the key web-based building blocks/enablers essential for social development (irrespective of the application areas) in the roadmap document will be a true value addition and will help enhance the capabilities of already existing applications or create new innovative applications. This will define our opportunities as well as challenges. Your opinion pls. Regards Renjish
