Re: Is Mobile Banking Really Reducing Poverty?

Indeed Janusz!

I just did cut and paste from a site I run at UNDP called "ICT for
Development Observatory" (http://sdnhq.undp.org/observatory) but forgot to
update the actual link. But I did say that it was published by
MobileActive...

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Raul

PS: somehow I got three copies of your email...

It is fair to point out that the article is NOT published by
undp.org (UN Development Programme) as the URL may imply, but by
mobileactive.org, "a community of people and organizations using
mobile phones for social impact". The actual URL is
http://mobileactive.org/mobile-banking-really-reducing-poverty-close-
look-promise-v-reality

And here is another selective quote from the article:
"While the future looks promising for unbanked people with the
mobile revolution, the reality is not quite there. We are in the
early stages of a market that is expansionist but not yet mature—and
it is not reaching the poorest of the poor."
