Dear Music Notation Community Group, The current MusicXML specification editor, Michael Cuthbert, is stepping down from this important role after three years (with our thanks and appreciation) in order to focus on MNX development. Consequently, the Music Notation Community Group is seeking the next MusicXML specification editor and is inviting volunteers. MusicXML is the most widely implemented standard for music notation. It is deeply relied upon, broadly standardized, and yet is still evolving and in need of refinement and growth. This role offers a chance to shape one of the most influential formats in the history of computers and music—a format that has served the world for more than two decades and remains essential. The editor’s work focuses on clarifying the existing spec, documenting corner cases, resolving ambiguity, improving consistency across implementations, and addressing long-standing issues. This happens in collaboration with other community members and with occasional input from the chairs and MusicXML founder Michael Good. If this is a responsibility you’d like to explore, we’d love to hear from you. Please email Daniel at d.spreadbury@steinberg.de and Adrian at adrian@holovaty.com to express your interest, or ask any questions. Be careful about replying to this email, as replies go to the whole mailing list by default! We are also in the early stages of planning a virtual Community Group meeting, where we can discuss the current state of our three projects (MNX, MusicXML, and SMuFL), which will also potentially provide a venue to discuss the MusicXML specification editor role. Please watch this space for more information about this meeting. Thanks!
