MusicXML 3.1 work resuming

Dear all,

I apologize for the several month delay in work on the MusicXML 3.1 format. I have been in the midst of development work for our upcoming Finale and new SmartMusic product launches. This has not left me much time to attend to the MusicXML 3.1 updates.

I now have time available, and plan to work through the existing V3.1 issues listed in our GitHub repository. We will first discuss implementation of the issues on the GitHub issue tracker. The implementation will then be submitted as a GitHub pull request for additional discussion.

We used to have most GitHub messages forwarding to this mailing list. However, that caused a lot of extra emails to the list that were driving some people away from the group. To participate in MusicXML 3.1 development - and SMuFL 1.2 development too - you will want to "watch" the repository on GitHub. These repositories are available at:

https://github.com/w3c/musicxml <https://github.com/w3c/musicxml>
https://github.com/w3c/smufl <https://github.com/w3c/smufl>

You will need to be signed into your free GitHub account in order to Watch a repository. Simply click on the "Watch" button in the upper right-hand corner of the page. You can "Unwatch" at any time.

Please also add your GitHub account name to our member contributor list on the group Wiki at:

Today I submitted a pull request for adding image size and scaling to MusicXML 3.1 via new height and width attributes added to the image and credit-image elements. The pull request is available at:

https://github.com/w3c/musicxml/pull/129 <https://github.com/w3c/musicxml/pull/129>

There might also be new issues proposed for the MusicXML 3.1 format, in addition to the issues already raised. For instance, we came up with some ideas during our content conversion work for the new SmartMusic that meet the V3.1 goals of being very targeted and not affecting the larger-scale work on the MNX project.

Best regards,
