They are usually used for singers (who have their hands free), but are also used for other performers: e,g, the trumpet and bassethorn soloists in *Licht*. They were first used (I think) for the vocal soloist and choirs in *Momente*, so I'd be inclined to add them to [vocal techniques](https://w3c.github.io/smufl/gitbook/tables/vocal-techniques.html) rather than to percussion. To be clear, the first one is a *tongue* click, made by snapping the tongue away from the roof of the mouth. Here's an example of the third one, taken from the score of *Michaelion*.
