Is it Mogens' tied notation you're saying is "wrong"? Chopin's original seems quite clear in terms of duration and voicing. I'm attaching an example with the voices moved around to avoid duration conflicts in the notation. But Chopin's has the advantage of also indicating (more or less) the division of notes between the hands. And on the piano obviously it's all pleasantly blurred by the pedal, so the actual keys need not be held to all of these durations. But his conflicting durations and double-stemmed notes also indicate relative stress for voicing purposes, and other even subtler things. (My example deliberately omits tempo, dynamics, phrase marks, and pedal indications, in order to focus on the note durations.)
