Dear MLW-LT participants, My name is Piek Vossen and I am a professor at the VU University of Amsterdam. I am active in multilingual wordnets, their linkage to ontologies and especially their usage in multilingual language technology that involves deeper reasoning and semantics. Me and my group specifically works on mining events from text in different languages and re-contructing event stories from the mined data. We are interested not only in the rich and complex semantic data but specifically for different perspectives (from different languages/cultures) in which similar events are told and what the positions and opinions are of people with respect to these events. From this point of view, we are more interested in comparable corpora than parallel corpora. I see my role in this group as remote since I think we take a fundamentally different approach than is follows in most MT approaches that use parallel corpora. best wishes Piek Piek Vossen Professor Computational Lexicology T +31 (0)20 59 86457 | piek.vossen@vu.nl | http://www.vossen.info | ADDRESS: de Boelelaan 1105, 1081 HV Amsterdam, The Netherlands | Disclaimer
