Thanks, but I'm not planning to install the mobile-validator locally, I was only curious what it will do with my HTML 3.2 pages disguised as valid XHTML 1.0 transitional. It turned out that I'll need my own DTD at some point in time to define "visible with any browser" (of course still as strict as possible after the overall decision "visible with any browser" :-) Maybe your validator should accept encoding="US-ASCII" because it's by definition a proper subset of UTF-8 (?) Frank P.S.: The mobileok validator list should be soon available also on GMane, I hope, subscriptions can take a while.
