Dear colleagues, As attendees of the MultilingualWeb Workshop series, we hope you have found value in attending the Workshops and exchanging ideas with your peers in an open and diverse program. We are writing to you concerning the future of the Workshops series. Past Workshops were funded by the European Commission, but after 2015, the Workshops are expected to be self-sustaining. W3C Workshops are always free to attend, so we cannot charge attendees. Even if we could, we believe that doing so would undermine the open and free discussion of ideas that has characterized previous Workshops. So we have decided to reach out to our community to see if there are organizations that could help sponsor the 2016 Workshop, currently planned for 21–22 April in Rome. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has generously offered to provide facilities to support a Workshop for up to 200 people. However, we need approximately € 40,000 in additional funding to manage the planning, preparation and reporting of the Workshop. It is to help address this gap, that we are we are currently seeking sponsors that can commit to contributions of € 10,000 or more to help ensure that the 2016 Workshop can take place. If you believe that your organization might be able to help us financially, we encourage you to reach out to us (fsasaki@w3.org and ishida@w3.org) to discuss options. We hope that enough of you have seen real value from the Workshops that you will help us ensure that they continue.
