The original intention was more along the lines of not needing a parser/serializer for a large subset of cases... if there are no namespaces and its always utf-8, attributes are alway with double quotes etc, then its far less risky to just hack away at the lexical xml (which is what a lot devs did anyway, and then got frustrated) -- Andrew Welch http://andrewjwelch.com
