Hi All, I've been participating in the Web and TV Interest Group over the past few months. Within this Interest Group the Media Pipeline Task-Force (MPTF) has been looking into what additional requirements there are from within the industry with regards to the HTML5 <video>/<audio> tags. As part of the requirements gathering I put forward a use-case, which involves a broadcaster transmitting mosaic style pictures, from which a single element (i.e. a portion of this picture) can be scaled up to fill the whole viewing region. The feedback I received from the use-case was that this may be possible using media-fragments. After reviewing your specification I see that this use-case has a lot in common with spatial fragments. I am aware that the specification is in a proposed recommendation state and therefore am not sure if I can add any comments or feedback. But if this is still possible I have a couple of questions: 1) In Section 7.2 (Clients Displaying Media Fragments) it states that: "we foresee two distinct use cases: highlighting the spatial region in-context and cropping to the region". Could there be an additional use-case saying: scaling the spatial region up to fill the complete video real-estate? 2) I couldn't see anywhere in your document anything regarding switching between spatial regions. From a broadcaster / content provider perspective it would be highly desirable if the switching mechanism didn't affect the video pipeline (i.e. no delays to video playback). Could this possibly be added in? Apologies if either of these questions have been discussed previously. I didn't have time to go through the mail archive. You can find the above mentioned use-case here: http://www.w3.org/2011/webtv/wiki/MPTF/MPTF_Discussions/ViewPort-Support Regards Duncan __________________________ Duncan Rowden Research Engineer, Research & Development BBC Future Media & Technology Room 2.30, Centre House, 56 Wood Lane, London W12 7SB E: duncan.rowden@bbc.co.uk T: +44 (0)3030 409560 F: +44 (0)2088 118815 W: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd <http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd> http://www.bbc.co.uk/ This e-mail (and any attachments) is confidential and may contain personal views which are not the views of the BBC unless specifically stated.
