To clarify, when we create persistent state in a browser, then it should persist in the same timescale as all other persistent state. To do otherwise creates a very uncertain platform upon which to build apps. Doing otherwise has zero privacy impact to most users. Those with irregular cookie policies should get matching behaviour. That is: if a cookie goes, so do the IDs. Do I have to include an explicit "if the browser feels like it, it can delete identifiers" … would that make people happier?
