Attendees: - Neil Soiffer - Patrick Ion - David Carlisle - Brian Kardell - Murray Sargent - Bruce Miller - Rob Buis - Louis Maher Agenda: https://github.com/mathml-refresh/mathml/issues/8#issuecomment-674696041 The meeting was recorded: https://benetech.zoom.us/rec/share/wcpqA7_f0W9OSIX_8nGOfY94TrviT6a81SBK-KdfyRxzjr3m9c9lzCQv2GTEOvfP(Access Password: eYL?Cv$1) -- meeting starts about 15 minutes in. MathML WG charter items <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W-oYUbOMueaqb3KFSWkjWVBwR6AzSEBizHwQhvSwfDc/edit> NS: anything else before paring it down some and then turning it over to editors to work on the text? PI: is there a definition of “web platform”? BK: It’s a pretty well accepted term. It has to do with what is implemented in browsers. PI: I would have benefited with some more clarity. NS: There is an audience for the charter. Does this need to be defined for the charter. BK: I don’t think so because it is well known in the W3C. BK: I think we should change “achieve” to “advance”. It’s kind of theoretical without a binding to what matters. PI: I like “advance towards” because we can’t guarantee that something will be achieved. BK: We don’t have control over what other groups do and we are dependent on them doing something to achieve the goal. NS: What groups or people should we contact for a breakout at TPAC? BK: We should invite ARIA and APA group members. Maybe CSS. NS: Any implementers to invite? PI: Who are the key people? Chemistry? CSS? BK: We can send out to specific people and more broadly to some groups. Ian Kilpratick and Elika, Joanie, Emilio from Mozilla, maybe Annevk, Alexander from Igalia maybe, Alice Boxhall would be good probably, James Craig, Tess and/or Ryosuke from Apple, Rossen from Microsoft, Bert Returning here: maybe we should consider changes to how alignment is done in MathML. Resolving more issues:Properly define DOM/IDL relationships #83 <https://github.com/mathml-refresh/mathml/issues/83> (resolved as HTMLOrSVGElement mixin?) NS: What’s going on with this. Is it resolved wrt to MathML? BK: The problem is we are referring to something that doesn’t exist (it's called HTMLOrSVGElement in HTML spec). Consensus: remove ‘needs resolution’. Make sure ‘needs spec change’ is still there. Note: Brian will go back through 21, 94 and 152 (and look for others) to make sure that decisions about links are not included and they are marked as L2 Reset font-style and font-weight on the root #36 <https://github.com/mathml-refresh/mathml/issues/36> (seems resolved and has tests) RB: the initial bug report was resolved. It has tests. Remove ‘needs resolution’ and ‘needs test’. Synchronization with WHATWG HTML5 spec #145 <https://github.com/mathml-refresh/mathml/issues/145> (mglyph/malignmark -- ask to remove from HTML5 or make behave like a mrow?) - (Some discussion about the implementation status outside of browsers and how necessary it really is; comparisons with TeX and others, mainly about how TeX uses table layout) MS: We really need to have a way to deal with alignment. MS: Use of malignmark in OfficeMath BM: I use tables in LaTeX to deal with alignment. It made me feel very guilty because it messes up semantics.. DC: Maybe ‘semantics’ attr could be used. DC: The elements are only mentioned in one place in the HTML spec. They are empty elements so it won’t do anything. Consensus: treat as unknown elements and no need to contact HTML/WhatWG for changes. Consider integrating scriptlevel into font-size #174 <https://github.com/mathml-refresh/mathml/issues/174> (anything new from fantasai?) Nothing new mstyle mathvariant inheritance and mi #204 <https://github.com/mathml-refresh/mathml/issues/204>/#1 <https://github.com/mathml-refresh/mathml/issues/1> (comment by Neil to remove mathvariant on mstyle) NS: Running out of time. Should we talk about this next week? Group: Yes, mathvariant on mstyle doesn’t seem to make sense. Add an 'alt' attr to MathML elements that can take href #206 BK: this isn’t an issue for MathML, it is an issue for AAM. We don’t have any links in level one. Consensus: close the issue because we have no links. <http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> Virus-free. www.avg.com <http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> <#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2>
