A caution in defining the core profile: In my view, our task in this stage is to identify what's already out there that that is in wide use, not to improve upon what is already out there. Anytime we hit markup/output differences, we've hit an edge case that needs to be defined as non-core. Put another way, at this stage we are trying to determine what is the markdown specification that is implicit in existing major implementations. Of course I stand ready to be corrected if I've got it wrong. Paul
