W3C AC 2024 disaster prevention and the World Wide Web sesion

Hello everyone,

In April of this year, a specialized session on disaster prevention and the World Wide Web was held at the W3C Advisory Committee Meeting. During this session, the importance of maps on the WWW for disaster prevention and the challenges associated with them were discussed. I also introduced and demonstrated the Hyperlayering Architecture, which I have been working on for nearly 30 years, along with its specification based on SVG – SVGMap, which is well-suited for addressing these challenges.

The content of the panel discussion is not publicly available, but other information can be found at the following URL:

Having always held great respect for the concept of a distributed system based on hyperdocuments in the original WWW, I have developed technologies over the years. While I cannot ascertain how much resonance the importance of integrating distributed information through maps based on hyperdocuments has within the Geo community, I believe that, at least in the field of disaster prevention, it represents an indispensable need.
