Call for research topic leads

Dear LWS Group,

As raised in [1] and discussed in today's call, we are seeking research topic leads to collect the state-of-the-art on particular LWS topics to feed into our editing work. These are areas where we need prior research to understand:

  *
Existing work done on the topic in the context of Solid
  *
Related work done on the topic outside of Solid

We are looking for leads to coordinate the write up research on the topic in the wiki for the LWS repository - this does not mean that you need to write-up much or all of the topic. It means you will help find the people with the expertise on the topic to support you. E.g. for Authorization you may refer to the current Solid specifications for WAC/ACP in addition to bringing in the expertise of those who have implemented permission management systems outside of Solid (see [2] for examples).

The current areas for research include (not exhaustive or in any particular order):

  *
Authorization - what has been attempted (including WAC, ACP, SAI), what industry solutions are there (e.g. what does AWS, GDrive) use for their permissioning system.
  *
Authentication
  *
Discovery - Currently assigned to @jaxoncreed
  *
Consent mechanisms (including access grants, inbox based mechanisms, other).
  *
Read/write operations
  *
Notifications (unstable topic - may not be included in current version of LWS)
  *
Inbox (unstable topic - may not be included in current version of LWS)
  *
Profile negotiation (unstable topic - may not be included in current version of LWS)
  *
This is to better inform, and speed up the process of writing each section as we get to it.

If you would like to lead on any of these topics please respond in GitHub [1] or contact me directly (jesse.wright@theodi.org). Public self-nomination on GH is preferred.

If you are not a member of LWS please still reach out if you would like to lead on a particular topic. Similarly, if you think of someone who would be good to invite as an expert on the topic - do let us know.
