In order to get back to knowledge representation for AI, it is necessary to identify which AI systems would be best served by having knowledge representation. Currently there are several frameworks for classifying AI systems. There is the OECD Classification of AI Systems: https://oecd.ai/en/classification The EU AI Act Classification: https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/library/commission-publishes-guidelines-ai-system-definition-facilitate-first-ai-acts-rules-application And then there is a standard proposal: © ISO 2025 Approved Work Item ISO/IEC AWI 4210286898 ISO/IEC AWI 42102 Information technology — Artificial intelligence — Taxonomy of AI system methods and capabilities https://www.iso.org/standard/86898.html What we don't have yet are taxonomies from the fields of psychology, cognitive science and neuroscience on how humans and in particular the human brain process data, information and acquire knowledge and act upon these. Several so-called blue brain programs tried to chart the processes in order to be able to produce biologically inspired cognitive architectures (BICA) but these ultimately did not succeed. But for now we can stick to what we already have in place, as it already provides ample ground and material to start working on KR for AI.
