CfPs on the public-lod mailing list (and other W3C mailing lists)

Dear subscriber to the public-lod mailing list.

I have been recently appointed maintainer of the list. It is with this
hat on that I am writing this email.

W3C has an anti-spam policy [1] applying to all the lists it hosts. This
policy specifies that call for papers are, in general, not considered
appropriate for W3C lists, and this normally applies to this list. As
you have probably noticed, that rule has never been strictly followed
(and I was guilty of that myself!)...

Notice that there is a historical exception to the "no-cfp" rule, which
is the semantic-web mailing list [2]. I also notice that 1) most CfPs
published on public-lod are /also/ posted on semantic-web anyway, and
that 2) there is a large intersection between the subscribers of both lists.

I therefore suggest that all of us refrain from posting CfPs on
public-lod, according to the W3C policy, and that we post them instead
on semantic-web (following the appropriate guideline, i.e. including the
string '[CfP]' in the subject).

   thanks in advance,

   pa
